Back to Normal...Now Time to Change It

Finally things are getting better. Oil and gas prices are starting to go back to normal and stores are starting to bring their prices down. People, like myself suffered a lot because we depended on oil for almost everything, that when it was almost gone we didn't know how to handle the situation. There are a couple of ways to ensure that this doesn't happen again. The government and the community can help by encouraging more eco-friendly things. They can promote drivers to use hybrids, public transportation, or bicycles instead of driving. The community can also open up a couple of farmer's markets two or three times a month. I can also do a couple of things to break my oil dependency and to decrease my carbon footprint. Somethings I can do to reduce my carbon footprint are use energy efficient bulbs and unplug any unused electronics in my house to reduce the amount of electricity I use. One way I can get others to do the same thing as me is by showing them how much money is saved and gained from recycling and using less electricity. In the end, these things being big or small can help make a huge difference if everybody does them, but if people don't, we might end up in another oil crisis, and who knows if we might survive the next one.

Oil Crisis!....in the Ocean?!?

I recently heard about the oil spill in the Gulf coast and I didnt pay much attention to it, until I went to the supermarket and I found out that prices had gone up again. Because of the oil spill in the Gulf Coast I am unable to get all the products I want. Sea food prices have gone up because the fisherman are unable to fish in the oil infested waters. Other products are also becoming expensive because it now takes more time and money to transport the products from one place to another. Companies cant dock their ships in the Gulf Coast because of the oil spill so they have to dock their boats somewhere else and then transport them by land.

Supply and Demand

Supply and Demand are both pretty simple. Demand is what people want and how much they want of it. Supply is how much is available to sell and how much it is worth.

What surprised me from the quiz was the question where it asks if it is true that oil production increases 2% every year. I thought it was true, but turns out it was false, and oil productivity has stayed the same over the years.

Oil Shortage!

Today I watched a news report and I learned that oil supplies were decreasing and certain items would be produced less. I immediately panicked because we rely on plastic for almost everything even though we don't realize it. I did not know what to do because I knew that plastics was going to be one of the items that was going to be supplied less. Plastic is made out of petroleum and almost everything is made out of plastic! Without plastic I cant have my watered bottles, plastic utensils, or anything else made out of plastic. I guess in order for me not to waste a lot of plastic I'm going to have to start recycling more.

Life Without Toothpaste Tubes!?!

Source: Word Press

Today I went to the Super Market to go buy some toothpaste. I asked one of the employees where the toothpaste was at. When I approached my destination , I noticed that there was something weird about the toothpaste packaging. The size and shape of the box was a little bit different than the regular rectangular box. I opened the box and to my amazement, inside was a little glass jar. I didn't know what was going on so I asked the employee what happened to the old toothpaste tubes. He said that since we are running low on oil, they stopped making toothpaste tubes. I was pretty mad because I love toothpaste tubes! They keep the toothpaste fresh and minty. With out them the toothpaste hardens because the air goes into it, sort of like play dough. Thanks to the toothpaste tubes I am also able to apply the right amount of paste on my brush. Without toothpaste tubes my toothpaste will go to waste, and if that goes to waste so will my teeth! If they don't have toothpaste tubes what will they use? I'm not really sure, but any other container wont be as good as a toothpaste tube. What I would do without them? =[
